Forte São João Baptista (“Fort of Saint John the Baptist”) is a 17th century fortress sitting prominently on the coast of northern Portugal, originally built to protect the mouth of the Ave River from evil seafarers. The structure looks like it should be an important stop on a bus tour of historic monuments by travelers visiting nearby Porto. Instead, this unique building has been transformed into a hip hotel and events venue.
Prudêncio participated in the rehabilitation of the Forte São João Baptista, and was responsible for waterproofing the bastions and footbridges of the walls that house the existing buildings in the fort.
